Competitive project for the best design proposal of the shopping center with the Grand Hotel Lviv hotel block and the conference hall on the street Doroshenko, 2 in the city of Lviv.

The object of design is a multifunctional building in the historic buildings of Lviv. The functions of the building are trade, hotel block, conference halls. The architectural solution corresponds to the principles of contextualism, sustained in the module and scale of the existing building.

The design area faces Doroshenko Street on the south side, and on the other side is surrounded by existing buildings from three to six floors.

The analysis of the site shows the need to comply with fire breaks on the west side of the houses to which the new building is not directly adjacent.

The composition of the house is formed under the influence of a number of planning and functional constraints. Such restrictions were fire breaks from neighboring houses, to which the projected house is not built close, the maximum height of the house, the height of the eaves of neighboring houses on the street. Doroshenko, forms of roofs of the building surrounding the design site.

The concept of the building was created in accordance with the task of the competition - a contextual building-insert in the module and the scale of the existing historically formed building st. Doroshenko.

The building combines several main functions: trade (retail), restaurant, hotel, space for events with conference rooms and coworking. Part of the space on the first floor, adjacent to the street. Doroshenko, used for public function - there is a public transport stop, pedestrian transit, bicycle parking. Part of the space can be used as a summer terrace of the restaurant.

Particular attention was paid to the analysis of the rhythm of the facades and, in particular, the windows of neighboring houses on the street. Doroshenko, because it is important to adhere to the module and scale of existing buildings.

On the facades there are decorative elements in the form of rails made of HPL. On courtyard facades, these rails serve as both protection from excessive sunlight and a visual barrier between the windows of hotel rooms facing the courtyard and the windows of a neighboring 5-storey building. Rails are provided with a variable angle of rotation relative to the plane of the facade: from perpendicular - in places of sunlight at an angle to the facade and the lack of direct visual contact with a neighboring house, to a turn of 50 ° - in places where the windows of the opposite house are too close the rays fall at right angles to the facade.

Indentation of the building line of the first floor into the plot 1 m from the red line of st. Doroshenko is provided to provide the necessary public space in front of the entrances to the shopping center, the arrangement of public transport, bicycle parking, pedestrian transit down the street. Part of the space is proposed to be used as a summer terrace of the restaurant, which is provided on the ground floor.

The public transport stop is partially integrated into the projected building and is located as close as possible to the roadway. Pedestrian transit is arranged outside the stop, closer to the active facade of the first floor.

The height of the main facade was limited by the cornice line of the neighboring houses along Doroshenko Street. The maximum height of the designed building is significantly higher than the cornice line. After analyzing the roofs of all neighboring houses, we decided to create a complex shape of the roof, which became complementary to the existing roofs around, while allowing to organize the maximum amount of interior space at the level of 5-6 floors. The broken shape of the roof is designed to combine the sloping roofs of neighboring houses into a single compositional structure.

On the part of the roof that is far from the street, it is proposed to arrange an exploited terrace, organizing a recreational space with landscaping. The composite core of the terrace is a translucent atrium lantern, along which stairs are arranged to access the terrace from the 6th floor. The planning structure of the terrace is subject to the broken shape of the roof of the building.
